Timothy Gill

Professor Timothy (Tim) Gill is an academic, researcher and public health policy advisor on nutrition, obesity, and chronic disease prevention. He works at the Boden Institute and the Prevention Research Collaboration (PRC) within Sydney Medical School and is Public Health Nutrition Coordinator at the Charles Perkins Centre. He is experienced in varied aspects of obesity prevention and management including public policy development and tailoring communication messages around weight management. Professor Gill is responsible for coordinating and implementing a program of research on public health nutrition and obesity issues at the Boden Institute and the PRC, including assessing existing evidence and interpreting the findings to help guide policy and program development. Professor Gill is past Scientific Secretary for the International Obesity Taskforce (IOTF), London, UK where he coordinated and helped implement IOTF projects worldwide, established formal IOTF links with the Commonwealth of Nations and major UN organisations, and was a regular advisor to WHO consultations on obesity and chronic disease. The work of the IOTF drove a global shift in the designation of obesity from a minor aesthetic issue to a major health concern. Professor Gill has helped develop polices and guidelines on obesity and public health nutrition-related issues for the EU and the UK Government and authored key reports on obesity for Australian Federal and State government departments. He is a member of the Scientific and Technical Advisory Committee, Public Health and Policy, World Obesity Federation.
