Welma Stonehouse
Professor Welma Stonehouse is a distinguished nutrition scientist and Registered Nutritionist with over 30 years of experience across academic and research roles in South Africa, New Zealand, and Australia. Her expertise includes nutrition interventions for chronic disease prevention and management, with a focus on industry collaboration and translational research. She has led large-scale multidisciplinary projects, secured over AU$9 million in research funding, and published more than 100 peer-reviewed papers. Welma is committed to nurturing the next generation of nutrition researchers and has successfully supervised 28 PhD/MSc students.
Welma received the prestigious Muriel Bell Award from the Nutrition Society of New Zealand in 2013. She is an active member of the national and global community, serving as Immediate Past President of the Nutrition Society of Australia, Treasurer of the International Union of Nutrition Sciences (IUNS), Board member of the Australian Nutrition Trust Fund (ANTF) and played pivotal roles in founding the Oceanic Nutrition Leadership Platform (ONLP) and the Federation of Oceanic Nutrition Societies (FONS). She is an Adjunct Professor at Queensland University of Technology and the University of South Australia.
